If you have a few hours in Ocho Rios before the ship leaves, eat in Island Village. Andy's Jerk and Margaritaville are in Island Village, which sits right beside the cruise pier. A few minutes farther on, central Ocho Rios has Irie Eatz Restaurant, a Jamaican restaurant open Monday to Saturday, and Saucy Bites & Smoothie Bar on DaCosta Drive for fast food and takeout.

Island Village is the shortest walk

Island Village is a shopping, dining and entertainment complex on Turtle River Road, and a Starbucks there serves coffee and light food. Margaritaville serves burgers, sandwiches, jerk-style dishes, seafood, drinks and casual American-Caribbean food, and its menu also includes Jamaican flavours. It is open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Andy's Jerk, also called The Flava Yard Jerk Center, serves jerk food and is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The complex's general hours run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., but each tenant keeps its own hours, so plan around the restaurant you pick.

A blue-green Caribbean bay with a cruise pier and palm trees along the shore Island Village sits right beside the cruise pier, so the walk to lunch is short.

A September 2025 Margaritaville menu gives its prices in US dollars. Sandwiches are US$19.95, including the honey mustard chicken, the island fish and the jerk pulled pork. Margarita pasta is US$21.95 vegetarian, US$23.95 with chicken and US$28.95 with shrimp. Fish tacos are US$23.95, jerk BBQ chicken is US$24.95 and the combo platter is US$38.95. The menu says a 15% government consumption tax and a gratuity are not included in those prices. Margaritaville also has a beach, a pool, a waterslide, live entertainment and a swim-up bar, so it suits a longer stop.

Miss T's Kitchen is at 65 Main Street, just under a mile west of the port, based on a 2025 port guide. Its Jamaican menu includes jerk chicken, curry goat, oxtail, ackee and saltfish, seafood, rice and peas, vegetable dishes and wraps. Ask for the current menu prices when you sit down.

Main Street has more restaurants and bars along the route. It is about a ten-minute walk from the port, with shops and eateries along the way. Confirm the opening times before you leave the pier, because they can change from day to day.

Walking, taxis and the way back

The walk is simple. Leave the terminal through the passenger exit and follow the signed route toward Island Village and the waterfront. For Main Street, keep going toward the central restaurants, and walk back the same way. Visit Jamaica places Island Village and Taj Mahal less than three minutes from the cruise port. Turtle Beach is about 10 to 15 minutes' walk east along the waterfront and Turtle Beach Road, depending on your berth and pace. Take a taxi if the heat, the traffic, your mobility or your time makes the walk hard.

Agree the fare before you get in. Licensed route taxis carry a Transport Authority driver identification card and show their route details on the front doors. Private charter fares are usually agreed when you book. Official hackney carriage rates from July 2026 are a J$375 base fare (about US$2.36), J$75 per kilometre (about US$0.47), J$39 for each five minutes of waiting (about US$0.25) and J$1,197 (about US$7.53) for a long hire. For more on getting around, see taxis and getting around from Turtle Bay Pier.

When to be back on the ship

Ocho Rios is generally a docked port, and Norwegian Cruise Line says its ships dock there. The main passenger facility is associated with Turtle Bay Pier, and Reynolds Pier has been used when the main berth is unavailable or when the port needs another facility. A government procurement record dated November 22, 2024 refers to repairs to Berth 2 at the Ocho Rios Cruise Terminal. Carnival reported in November 2025 that its calls had formally returned to Ocho Rios after the recovery work that followed Hurricane Melissa. Berths change with the port's schedule, so your ship's daily port instructions and onboard announcements tell you where you will dock.

Royal Caribbean says all aboard is generally scheduled about 30 minutes before sailing, but passengers should check the exact time on board and near the gangway. The ship does not wait for independent passengers who return late. Plan to be back at the port 60 to 90 minutes before all aboard. That window covers ordering, payment, the walk back, port security and boarding, and it should be longer for Main Street or a taxi. If the ship sails at 4 p.m., aim to be back by about 2:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Ship-sponsored excursions work differently and have their own return arrangements.

Common questions

What restaurants are near the Ocho Rios cruise port?

Island Village has Margaritaville, Andy's Jerk and a Starbucks, all beside the pier. Central Ocho Rios has the Ocho Rios Jerk Centre and Miss T's Kitchen, both a longer walk or a short taxi ride away. Pick Island Village for the shortest walk, and the Jerk Centre for a full jerk meal with menu prices in Jamaican dollars.

Can you walk from the Ocho Rios cruise port to restaurants?

Yes, to Island Village and the waterfront, which Visit Jamaica places less than three minutes from the port. Main Street takes about ten minutes on foot. The Ocho Rios Jerk Centre is far enough that a taxi is usually the simpler choice.

Is Ocho Rios a tender port?

No. Ocho Rios is generally a docked port, and Norwegian Cruise Line says its ships dock there. Berths can change, so follow your ship's daily port instructions for the exact arrangement.

What is the most popular dish in Jamaica?

Ackee and saltfish is Jamaica's national dish and a familiar breakfast, made with cooked ackee, salted codfish, onions, tomato and sweet pepper. Jerk is the other dish most often linked with Jamaica, seasoned with pimento, thyme and Scotch bonnet pepper before it is cooked over heat. Our guide to where to eat ackee and saltfish covers the places to find it.

Can I get off the cruise ship in Jamaica without a passport?

Do not assume a cruise card or photo ID is enough, because entry depends on citizenship. Jamaica's visitor guidance says US visitors must show a valid passport when leaving or re-entering the United States, and the Embassy of Jamaica's April 2025 guidance says cruise passengers need a valid passport and proof of eligibility to re-enter. Carry the documents that both your cruise line and immigration require, since a passenger without them can be refused entry, delayed or stopped from reboarding.

Ocho Rios is in St. Ann Parish, and the restaurant directory helps you find places to eat in every parish.
