Off the cruise pier, start with Miss T's Kitchen at 65 Main Street for Jamaican home-style cooking. Its menu covers oxtail, curry goat, jerk chicken, seafood cooked several ways and vegetarian dishes, and Visit Jamaica calls it a local favourite. For jerk in town, Ocho Rios Jerk Centre on Dacosta Drive serves jerk chicken, pork, fish and sausage in a casual open-air setting, and Scotchies in Drax Hall suits a stop on the road to Dunn's River Falls.
Ocho Rios sits in St. Ann Parish, and the town centre is close enough to the cruise port that many passengers walk in. Places outside the waterfront area need a licensed taxi or an excursion vehicle, so plan your return to the ship before you order.
Main Street and the town centre
Miss T's Kitchen, at 65 Main Street, is the sit-down Jamaican meal in town. Its official site describes it as a celebration of Jamaican country cuisine. The menu lists prices in US dollars, with jerk chicken at US$12, curry goat at US$15 and oxtail at US$22 as the menu stood on 14 October 2026. Those are single dishes, not a meal total. The restaurant takes reservations by phone, so call ahead to book and to check the hours for your day.
Oxtail, curry goat and jerk chicken are the home-style staples of Main Street.
Reggae Pot Rastarant, also on Main Street, cooks Jamaican staples and ital-style food. Visit Jamaica calls it a local favourite and names curry goat, jerk chicken, pasta and seafood among its dishes. The Observer profiled it as a Main Street restaurant in 2012, so ask whether it is serving before you walk over.
Mongoose Jamaica Restaurant and Lounge, at 52 Main Street, appears on the St. Ann food-establishment certificate list dated 7 January 2025. Visit Jamaica names it among Ocho Rios restaurants serving local and international food.
Ocho Rios Jerk Centre, on Dacosta Drive, is the town-centre jerk stop. The Observer reported in October 2023 that it had been operating for more than 30 years, that locals and visitors both eat there, and that jerk chicken is its crowd-pleaser. The report is from 2023, so ask about the menu when you call.

Walking from the cruise pier
Island Village and Margaritaville Ocho Rios are a two-minute walk from the Ocho Rios cruise pier, according to Visit Jamaica. Both have restaurants, entertainment and shops, so they suit a short stop with little planning. Visit Jamaica says passengers are often able to stroll into town, which makes the waterfront the easiest place to eat on a short port call.
On the way to Dunn's River Falls
Scotchies in Drax Hall sits west of Ocho Rios on the road toward the falls and Runaway Bay. Visit Jamaica names it for authentic jerk chicken. It is a practical stop on the way out or back, though travel times change with traffic, so build in some extra time.
The falls road is the route to Scotchies and the other stops outside town.
Dunn's River Falls has its own food and snack points, in the Central Gardens, near the falls guide dispatch area, by the Banyan Tree, at the beach and through the craft-market exit. The official park site also lists Blue Mountain coffee and snacks inside the attraction. The falls are about a five-minute drive from the port, according to Visit Jamaica, and the cascade extends about 960 feet (183 metres) to the sea.
For a seaside stop after the falls, Bamboo Blu in Mammee Bay serves lobster, burgers, pasta and Jamaican-influenced food beside a private beach, with a lounge area. It is a separate taxi or driving stop, not a walk from the falls.
Farther out: Runaway Bay, Salem and Faith's Pen
Farenough Jerk & Seafood opened on Main Street in Runaway Bay in February 2025, according to a June 2025 Observer report. The menu includes jerk seafood, wild-caught seafood, jerk wild boar and, at times, curry reindeer. It suits a Runaway Bay stop with a broader jerk and seafood menu.
Jerk pork and fried chicken are the draw at the roadside stops outside town.
Jerky's Northern Restaurant in Salem, near Runaway Bay, is a family-style spot known for fried chicken and jerk pork. The Observer reported in 2019 that it opened daily from 6 a.m. to midnight and had served the area for nearly 40 years. Ask about current hours before you drive out.
Faith's Pen is a group of numbered roadside vendors rather than one restaurant. Named food stops include Fatty's Cooking Spot and Country Style Cooking. The stalls serve jerk chicken, jerk pork, fried or roast fish, ackee and saltfish, mannish water, festival, bammy, breadfruit, soup and roasted corn. Jamaica Star reported in August 2022 that some vendors were still open, but there were fewer than before. Faith's Pen lies south of Ocho Rios on the older inland route from Kingston, so it is not a convenient stop for a short cruise visit.
Eating with a view
Almond Tree Restaurant at Hibiscus Lodge Hotel offers local and international food on an open-air terrace over the bay. Its hotel page lists breakfast from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m., lunch from noon to 5 p.m. and dinner from 5 to 9:30 p.m. Bamboo Blu has a seaside location with a private beach, lounge chairs and cabana beds.
A raised verandah gives Ocho Rios diners a view over the bay.
GoldenEye's Shabeen, in Oracabessa, has a rooftop lounge with a panoramic sea view. Oracabessa is east of Ocho Rios, so treat it as a day trip rather than a town-centre meal.
Cards, cash and timing
The Jamaican dollar is the official currency. Visit Jamaica says international cards work at many ATMs and advises visitors to watch their card use. The US Department of State says most establishments accept credit cards but may add a large fee, and it advises travellers to be ready to pay in cash. Carry Jamaican dollars for roadside stalls, smaller jerk stops, taxis and small purchases.
Some menus show US dollars, so ask whether the bill is in JMD or USD before you order. A cruise passenger should allow time for disembarkation, traffic, ordering, eating and the return trip. A restaurant in the town centre is more practical for a short port call than one in Runaway Bay, Faith's Pen or another outlying area. Confirm before you go: hours, menus and whether a place takes cards change over time, so check each restaurant directly before you travel.
What Ocho Rios is known for
Ocho Rios is known for Dunn's River Falls, cruise tourism, beaches, rainforest and nearby waterfalls. The falls are one of Jamaica's national treasures, and they are one of the closest major attractions to the port. Many visitors combine a day at the falls with a meal in town or a stop along the falls road.
The town also has Mystic Mountain, Blue Hole, gardens and craft markets. Its food culture follows the same mix. Jamaican home cooking, jerk and seaside dining all sit close to the attractions, so the restaurant you choose often depends on how your day is planned.
