About Weh Fi Nyam

About Weh Fi Nyam

Weh Fi Nyam is a restaurant directory for all 14 parishes of Jamaica. The name means "where to eat" in Jamaican patois. Whether you live on the island, are visiting for a holiday, or are abroad and missing home, it helps you find your next plate: a parish, a town, a kind of food, and the places that serve it.

Why Weh Fi Nyam exists

Weh Fi Nyam was started by a Jamerican: the son of a Jamaican father and an American mother. He grew up in the United States, spent his summers in Jamaica, and grew up loving both places.

That is why the site is built for both sides of the water: the local deciding on dinner tonight, the visitor planning meals between beach days, and the family abroad coming home for the summer. Wherever you call home, the answer to "weh fi nyam?" should be easy to find, parish by parish.

What the directory covers

The directory covers all 14 parishes. It is browsed by parish, by town and by food type, so you can start with the place you are standing in or the place you are planning to reach. Every parish has its own page, for example restaurants in Kingston, restaurants in St. James, restaurants in Westmoreland and restaurants in St. Ann. The main restaurant directory lists all 14.

A roadside cookshop with curry goat, rice and peas and a festival in foil sits beside a dining room with a full menu. Food types like jerk, patties, seafood and Ital run through the listings, so you can go straight to what you want to eat.

Food stories for diners and visitors

The food stories on the blog cover where to eat, what to order and what it costs. If you are new to the food, start with the Jamaican foods to try. For a morning meal, read about Jamaican breakfast. For a patty, the Jamaican patties guide is the place to look.

Planning a trip? The guide to food prices in Jamaica helps you budget before you land. Staying at a resort? The piece on eating outside an all-inclusive resort is for guests who want to eat beyond the resort gates. Missing home from abroad? The guide to bringing Jamaican food home is written for you.

For restaurant owners

If you cook for a living, the directory works for you too. Restaurant owners can claim their listing for free. New places can add a restaurant to the directory. Paid plans are on the plans and pricing page, where the options and what each one includes are set out in plain terms, so you can weigh the cost against what you get.

The for restaurants page covers the owner side of the site in more detail.
