The main Jamaican fast food chains are Juici Patties, Tastee, Mother's and Island Grill, and Captain's Bakery has a branch in Montego Bay. The international chains operating in Jamaica include KFC, Burger King, Wendy's, Pizza Hut, Domino's, Popeyes and Subway. McDonald's is the big name missing from that list, because its Jamaican restaurants closed in October 2005.
Patties are the one fast food category that is distinctly Jamaican, so the local chains are a good place to start if you want the flavour of the island. The international chains publish their own menus, which makes them easy to compare. Either way, the details that matter most are the branch, the hours and the price of the item you want.
Homegrown chains built around patties
Juici, Tastee and Mother's are not simply Jamaican branches of an international brand. Each was built around patties and other quick meals, and each grew into a chain with its own kitchens and outlets.
Patties are the fast food category that is distinctly Jamaican.
Juici started in a family kitchen. Jukie Chin, the founder, began making patties in his mother's kitchen in 1978 and sold them through the family grocery shop. The first stand-alone Juici Beef Patties store opened in May Pen, Clarendon, in 1980. The current locator lists branches across Clarendon, Kingston, St. Catherine, St. Elizabeth, Montego Bay, St. Thomas and Trelawny, and the chain also has a branch at Norman Manley International Airport. Beyond beef and chicken patties, the menu includes fried chicken, breakfast, soup, porridge and coco bread. A February 2024 Jamaica Observer report put Juici at more than 60 locations, though that count seems to include branches outside Jamaica, and the same report covered the chain's expansion in the United States. For the American side of the story, see Juici Patties in the US.
Tastee was founded in 1966 by Vincent Chang and Valerie Doreen Lue Shing at Union Square in Kingston. The business later moved to Cross Roads, which remains its corporate headquarters, and the company describes itself as family-owned. Tastee marked its 60th anniversary in August 2026 with a concert. The menu covers patties, chicken meals, porridge and baked goods. Tastee's website gives two different branch counts, one of 15-plus and one of 18-plus, so use its location page for the branches in Kingston, St. Andrew, St. Catherine, St. James and St. Thomas.
Mother's Enterprise was founded in 1981. Roots Financial Group acquired 100 percent of the company in May 2023 through MEL 2022 Limited, and Kevin Donaldson is the principal owner of Roots. Sheldon Seymour was CEO of Mother's Food Group in 2024. The business runs Mother's restaurants, school canteens, Devon House Bakery and Pimentos Restaurant. The menu covers patties, chicken meals, breakfast and soups, and the Power Patty is the vegetarian option. Mother's has several outlets in the Kingston area, so check the one nearest you before making a special trip.
Island Grill was founded by Thalia Lyn, and its history runs through the Lyn family's earlier bakery and food businesses, including Purity Bakery. In 2023 Tania Waldron-Gooden became CEO, succeeding the founder, and the company remains family-owned. The Jamaica Gleaner reported 16 operating Jamaican stores in May 2023, and the 18th store opened in August 2025 along with a plan to become a multi-brand operator. Island Grill is known for jerk and BBQ chicken, fish, yabbas, rice meals and healthier quick-service options. Its official menu says prices can change without notice and that airport prices are higher because of port fees.
Captain's Bakery was founded in Jamaica in 1995 by Captain Horace Burrell, who remained CEO and founder until his death in 2017. The chain later expanded abroad, and the Gleaner reported a Cayman Islands branch in 2002. It is known for hardough bread, bakery items and quick meals. The Jamaican branch confirmed in 2025 food-safety records is at 35 St. James Street in Montego Bay, so check that branch before you travel.
International chains on the island
Several international chains have Jamaican branches, and each publishes its own menu.
Fried chicken, burgers and pizza are the international chains' main lines.
KFC operates through Restaurants of Jamaica Limited under a Yum! franchise licence. Its first Jamaican restaurant opened on June 18, 1975, at 170 Old Hope Road in Kingston. The Jamaica Information Service reported in January 2026 that the Morant Bay restaurant was KFC Jamaica's 43rd location. The current locator includes Cross Roads and Red Hills Road in Kingston, Cumberland in Portmore, Old Harbour, two Spanish Town branches, Savanna-la-Mar, Ocho Rios, Howard Cooke Boulevard in Montego Bay and Linstead. The menu covers fried chicken, chicken meals, buckets, Zinger sandwiches, Krispers, popcorn chicken, sides and drinks.
Wendy's Jamaica is run by Gara Restaurants Limited, a family-owned Jamaican restaurant group. Its locator lists nine outlets: Barbican, Constant Spring, Village Plaza, Liguanea, Mandeville, Montego Bay, Portmore, Waterloo and Whitter Village. The Whitter Village branch in Montego Bay opened in December 2024. Wendy's is known for burgers, chicken sandwiches, fries, breakfast and baked potatoes.
Burger King is operated in Jamaica by Restaurant Associates Limited, which describes itself as the Jamaican franchise operator for the brand. Burger King is known for burgers, fries, chicken sandwiches and breakfast, and 2025 food-safety records place outlets in Kingston and Montego Bay.
Pizza Hut is operated by Restaurants of Jamaica Limited. Its current locator lists at least 12 outlets, including Falmouth, Spanish Town, Portmore, Drax Hall, New Kingston, Liguanea, Mandeville, Havendale, May Pen, Montego Bay, Ocho Rios and Barbican. The Jamaica Observer reported in February 2026 that a new Pizza Hut restaurant in Cumberland, Portmore, is backed by a J$180 million investment. The menu is built around pizza, wings, pasta and sides.
Domino's Pizza has a Jamaican footprint. The Observer reported in November 2025 that a location had opened in Havendale, St Andrew, which it described as an expansion of the chain's presence in Jamaica. Domino's is known for pizza, sides, desserts, and delivery or carryout.
Popeyes is also run by Restaurant Associates Limited, which was reported in 2023 as holding the Popeyes franchise. Current food-safety records place Popeyes on Mountain View Avenue, on Constant Spring Road, at Manor Park and on Red Hills Road. The Jamaica Information Service recorded the official opening of a Popeyes in Cross Roads, Kingston. It is known for Louisiana-style fried chicken, chicken sandwiches, tenders and seafood items.
Subway's Jamaican locator shows open units on Constant Spring Road, in Liguanea, at Sovereign Village in Portmore, at Fairview in Montego Bay and at Manor Park. The Montego Bay unit at 1 Providence is marked closed, so skip that address. Subway is known for made-to-order submarine sandwiches, salads and wraps.
Prices you can compare
Prices change, so compare like with like: a single patty against a single patty, and a meal against a meal.
Compare a single patty with a single patty across the chains.
Tastee's standard beef patty is J$320 (about US$2.00), effective May 4, 2026. Nationwide News reported that the price rose from J$300 (about US$1.90). In the same report, Tastee's chicken patties were J$350 (about US$2.20) and its cheese patties were J$400 (about US$2.50).
As of October 2026, KFC Jamaica's Meal Deal is J$1,130 (about US$7.10). It comes with two pieces of chicken, regular fries and a 20-ounce drink. The Big Deal is J$1,490 (about US$9.40), and the Big Six is J$3,090 (about US$19). These are meal prices, not the price of a single piece of chicken, and they can change.
For Juici and Island Grill, take the current price of a patty or meal from the branch, because prices can differ by location. Airport outlets can cost more. Island Grill says so on its menu, because airport prices carry port fees.
Why McDonald's left Jamaica
McDonald's opened in Jamaica in April 1995 and closed its Jamaican restaurants in October 2005. The Jamaica Gleaner reported on October 26, 2005, that the franchise was pulling out because it was no longer profitable to remain in the country. The paper said McDonald's had run into trouble as early as 2000, when plans for aggressive expansion were suspended because of difficult operating conditions.
The franchise was operated by Three Rivers Management and had as many as 12 stores at its peak. The Gleaner also tied the decline to reduced purchasing power after the economic problems of 2000. The company later closed its locations and auctioned its equipment. The Gleaner's account points to falling profitability and hard operating conditions together, rather than one single event.
Choosing between a local chain and an international one
The right choice depends on what you want to eat, where you will be and how you plan to pay. For a snack or a light meal, a patty from Juici, Tastee or Mother's is the local option. For a set meal with chicken and sides, KFC's Meal Deal is a clear example, and for pizza, Pizza Hut and Domino's are the big names. If you want a sandwich made to order, Subway is the chain to look for. For a burger from a chain, Wendy's and Burger King are the options.
Check which branches sit on your route before you set out.
Location matters on the road. Juici has a branch at Norman Manley International Airport, and Island Grill's airport prices run higher. Hours vary by branch and by day, so check the branch before you set out.
Card payment is the question that trips visitors up. KFC Jamaica's privacy policy says online payments can be made by debit or credit card, but that does not mean every counter takes every card network. Carry Jamaican cash, and ask the branch about cards before you order a large meal. If you are abroad and choosing between Jamaican patty brands, the Jamaican patty chains in America compared post sets Juici, Golden Krust and Tastee side by side, and our Jamaican patties guide explains the prices and why the patties are yellow.
Our restaurant directory covers the whole island. To find a chain branch near you, start with the Kingston directory page and then check the chain's own location page for the current branch.
