For most cruise passengers, the quickest answer is Pepper's Jerk Center on King Street, a short walk from the port. If you have a longer shore window, a licensed taxi can take you to Glistening Waters on the Main Highway in Rock, where the indoor and outdoor seating overlooks the Luminous Lagoon.

Falmouth is the capital of Trelawny Parish, and the historic cruise port sits at 2 King Street, right beside the old town. The port is gated, but it is open to visitors, and you do not need a tour to eat or walk around. Food inside the port, food downtown and food a short ride out of town are three different plans, so it helps to pick one before you step off the ship.

Eating inside the port

Inside the port, the food and beverage options are Patty Port, Starbucks, Dairy Queen, Quiznos, Nathan's Famous and Auntie Anne's. If you have very little time, eating inside the gates means no transport planning at all. You can eat and shop without leaving the port area.

Skip Margaritaville Falmouth. It has closed, even though some port pages still show it. CruiseHive reported the closure in 2024, and visitor reports place it in early 2023. A closed restaurant can waste part of a short shore window, so leave it off your plan.

Walking to Pepper's and Juici Patties

Pepper's Jerk Center is at King Street, close to the port. It is open 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., Monday through Saturday, on ship days, and 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., Monday through Saturday, on non-ship days. The menu includes jerk chicken, jerk pork, curried chicken, curried shrimp, escoveitched fish and barbecue chicken. Ask about Sunday hours before you plan a Sunday visit. The Jerk Chicken Price in Jamaica, and Why It Is Called Jerk guide explains the price of the dish and where the name comes from.

Juici Patties has a Falmouth branch on Lower Harbour Street, phone +1 876 617 3392. It is a practical stop for patties and quick takeaway. For a full guide to the patty itself, read the Jamaican Patties Explained guide.

Places a short ride out of town

Rock Wharf Luminous Lagoon is in Florence Hall Village. It serves Jamaican food and is open daily from noon to 9 p.m. It is a tourist attraction as well as a place to eat, so it suits a passenger who wants a meal as part of a visit.

Calm lagoon water at dusk with a dark green shoreline and a few boats Glistening Waters and Rock Wharf both sit on the Luminous Lagoon side of Trelawny.

Herbie's in the Hague Housing Development serves seafood from 3 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., Monday to Saturday. It is closed on Sundays. It is an evening option, so allow time for the trip back to the port.

Glistening Waters Restaurant is on the Main Highway in Rock, Trelawny, outside central Falmouth. It is about 2.25 miles from the Falmouth cruise terminal and open daily from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. The menu focuses on seafood and Jamaican dishes, including lobster, shrimp, fish, conch, curried goat and jerk chicken. The restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating that overlooks the Luminous Lagoon.

The menu includes grilled lobster, curried lobster, shrimp, conch, snapper, seafood platters, curried chicken, brown-stew chicken, pork and steak. Confirm before you go: the menu prices at Glistening Waters, because they can change.

Visit Jamaica puts Martha Brae Rafting Village less than 15 minutes from the port. It has a bar, picnic areas, restrooms and souvenir shops, and the rafting covers about three miles of river. Tours are separate from any meal you buy. Tours start from US$146 per person as at 14 October 2026, and transport and package inclusions vary by booking.

Getting around safely

For any destination beyond the immediate town centre, use a licensed Jamaican taxi or a recognised tour operator. Visit Jamaica says that licensed route taxis display red PPV or white P plates, route information, a black-and-white checkered pattern and the driver's Transport Authority ID. Look for those details before you get in.

A narrow coast road in Trelawny lined with palms and green hills under a bright sky Beyond the town centre, a licensed taxi or recognised operator is the way to go.

Chartered taxis should have the fare confirmed before you leave. Keep your ship's all-aboard time in mind and allow time for port security when you return. Stay with your group, and avoid isolated areas. Police safety tips cover the same ground.

Return

Keep your all-aboard time in mind and allow time for port security.

For passengers who want structure and a firm return plan, a guided walking tour or an arranged taxi is more practical than a loose wander. Walking tours and guided trolley tours are standard activities from the port. The town itself has historic buildings, Water Square, St Peter's Church, the old Jewish cemetery and other Georgian-era sites.

Prices and payment

The one clear price here is Martha Brae's US$146 per person, as at 14 October 2026. One Martha Brae rafting package is cashless, so check which payment methods the other packages accept before you book.

For restaurant food, ask for the price before you order at Pepper's, Juici Patties and the port vendors. Cards may not be accepted everywhere, so carry a payment method that the specific venue takes. A tip is separate from any service charge, so read the bill before you add one. The Tipping and Eating Out in Jamaica: What Visitors Should Know guide covers that in more detail.

Common questions

What can cruise passengers do near the Falmouth cruise port?

You can eat inside the port, shop at its retail and craft areas, walk into historic Falmouth, join a guided walking or trolley tour and visit Water Square. Pepper's and Juici Patties sit within walking distance. For a short ride out of town, Glistening Waters and Martha Brae are the two main options.

Can you walk around Falmouth, Jamaica from the cruise port?

Yes. The port is beside the historic town, and walking tours are an activity for cruise passengers. The practical walking area covers the port complex, Water Square and nearby downtown streets. Keep the return deadline in mind, because walking farther means more heat and busier streets on a cruise day.

Is Falmouth better than Montego Bay?

Neither is automatically better. Falmouth is the more compact choice, with historic streets, Georgian architecture, patties, jerk food and Martha Brae less than 15 minutes away. Montego Bay offers a larger city environment with more beaches, nightlife and restaurants around the Hip Strip, which suits a passenger who wants a wider range of dining.

Can you get off a cruise at port without an excursion?

Yes. A shore excursion is not required to disembark and spend time in the port complex or walk into Falmouth. Independent passengers should carry their cruise identification, confirm the ship's all-aboard time, use licensed taxis or recognised operators and agree on fares before travel. An excursion suits a far destination or a passenger who wants a structured return plan.

What are some good restaurants in downtown Falmouth?

Pepper's Jerk Center is the first stop for many passengers, with jerk chicken, jerk pork, curried shrimp and escoveitched fish on King Street. Juici Patties on Lower Harbour Street suits a quick patty. Tipsy Tuna Seafood & Grill JA on Seaboard Street is the seafood option, and HalfTime Sports Bar & Grill on Market Street has some of the latest hours among the downtown picks, open until midnight most days.
