For a beach lunch, go to Best in the West or Miss Lily's at Skylark on Seven Mile Beach. For sunset, book Rockhouse, Ivan's at Catcha Falling Star or The Restaurant at The Cliff Hotel on the West End cliffs, and go to Rick's Cafe if you want the famous sunset view and the cliff jumpers. For local food, try Rasta-Ade, Murphy's West End or a roadside cookshop off Norman Manley Boulevard.

Negril sits in Westmoreland Parish, and it eats in two moods. By day it is the beach: sand on your feet, a jerk pan smoking somewhere down the road, and lunch with the sea right there. By evening the crowd drifts west to the cliffs, where dinner turns into a sunset event. If you are staying at an all-inclusive, one meal outside the property will show you a different side of the town. The guide to eating outside your all-inclusive covers the logistics.

Pick your area first

Seven Mile Beach is the easy choice for sand, beachfront lunches and restaurants close to the resort strip. The West End is the choice for cliffs, sunsets and a longer dinner, but it is more spread out and the roads wind. Town and the inland roads are where you find cookshops, jerk pork and lower-key plates.

The West End. The post names the West End as the choice for cliffs, sunsets and a longer dinner.

Norman Manley Boulevard, which locals also call Beach Road, runs past many of the beach restaurants and casual food spots. Along it you will find beachfront dining, small cafés, bars, jerk stops and vegan food. West End restaurants sit along West End Road and the cliff route.

Getting there is the first decision. Lonely Planet puts Negril about a 90-minute drive from Montego Bay and Sangster International Airport. Private airport transfers and rental cars are available. Once you are in town, you can walk much of Seven Mile Beach and between nearby beach businesses.

Seven Mile Beach: jerk, seafood and beachfront lunches

Best in the West is the place to start if you want jerk. It is an open-air restaurant on the beach road, near the middle of Seven Mile Beach, and it is known for smoked jerk chicken, cocktails and coconut pie. Sit outside, order the chicken, and finish with the pie.

Empty lounge chairs under palm trees on a wide white sand beach Seven Mile Beach is where Negril lunches happen with the sea close by.

Miss Lily's at Skylark Negril Beach Resort is the beachfront Jamaican choice. Its jerk chicken is smoked over pimento wood, and the menu also covers pork and fish. Order the chicken if you want that pimento smoke first.

Arthur's Beach Bar & Grill sits near Pineapple Beach Resort. Visit Jamaica calls it a rustic beach restaurant. The menu is short and seasonal, with seafood and a Jamaican grilled-chicken variation, so come for something simple with the sand just outside.

Alfred's Ocean Palace has the widest menu on the beach. It serves country-style cooking, locally caught seafood, conch, shrimp, fish of the day, jerk chicken and lobster. It also serves Jamaican breakfast, along with lunch and dinner.

Matthew's Sushi, Bar and Restaurant is the fusion pick on the Boardwalk. As The Gleaner reported, it mixes sushi and seafood with Jamaican seasonings and local produce. That suits a group where one person wants sushi and another wants something with Jamaican flavour.

The West End cliffs: sunset, seafood and cliff views

Rockhouse Restaurant is the classic cliffside meal. Its official site describes modern Jamaican and Caribbean food with local seafood, and it serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Rockhouse takes reservations for the restaurant and for Pushcart, so book ahead for a sunset table.

Pushcart Jerk Center & Rum Bar is the Rockhouse spot for traditional Jamaican street food. It brings those flavours into a more polished setting than a roadside stand, which makes it an easy pick for a first night on the cliffs.

Rick's Cafe is the sunset landmark most people mean. It sits on the West End cliffs and combines sunset viewing, cliff jumping, drinks and casual food. Its official menu lists fried calamari at about J$3,180 (US$20) and a Caribbean whole lobster at about J$7,155 (US$45). Those are menu prices, and they can change, so check the menu when you plan your night.

Ivan's at Catcha Falling Star is the pick for a romantic sunset dinner. It cooks with seasonal produce, fresh-caught seafood and Jamaican herbs and spices, and the sunset cliff views do the rest. Ask for a sunset-facing table when you book.

The Lodge Restaurant at Tensing Pen is an intimate, alfresco cliffside restaurant. It serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, and lunch comes with a sea view. Outside diners should ask about access and book ahead.

Blue Mahoe at Ocean Cliff Hotel serves local and international cuisine, seafood and Caribbean flavours in a cliffside setting. The Jamaica Observer profiled it in June 2025 as a destination for locals and visitors alike.

The Restaurant at The Cliff Hotel is the calmer, more conventional dinner. It uses local seafood and Jamaican ingredients with international techniques, and dinner runs from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM, with last seating at 9:00 PM. Outside guests are welcome, and the hotel asks you to reserve tables and private dining.

Murphy's West End is a modest spot known for lobster, shrimp, fish and its Devil Chicken, which comes in different spice levels. A 2024 guest guide from Tensing Pen says the front office can arrange transport to Murphy's. For more seafood, see seafood restaurants in Negril.

Pirates Dock Bar & Grill is waterfront seafood, with jerk chicken, escovitch fish, curry goat and oxtail. It has live reggae on Fridays and Saturdays, so plan around those nights if music is part of the evening.

Syd's on the Rocks is a newer West End poolside restaurant and lounge, and it is highlighted for its sunset views.

Vegan, Ital and Ethiopian plates

Rasta-Ade is a small café on Norman Manley Boulevard. It serves vegan and Ital food, fresh juices and vegetable-based Jamaican dishes. If Ital is new to you, the guide to Ital food in Jamaica explains what to expect.

A plate of steamed vegetables, rice and plantain beside a glass of fresh juice Vegan and Ital plates lean on vegetables, rice and fresh juices.

Sador's Ethiopian Restaurant serves Ethiopian and Jamaican food on Norman Manley Boulevard, with a strong vegan menu. The Gleaner reported in 2024 that Negril had welcomed its first authentic Ethiopian restaurant.

Just Natural Veggie & Seafood Restaurant is a family-owned West End spot in a garden setting. It serves vegetarian food, seafood and down-home Jamaican dishes, and Visit Jamaica says it has served the area since 1998. For more meat-free options across the island, see vegan and vegetarian restaurants in Jamaica.

Local spots and cookshops in town

Jerk is the other big category, and the town area is where to look for it away from the beach. Red Dragon is a jerk-pork destination named in the Negril Chamber of Commerce guide. Fire's Lobster Grill appears in the same guide for lobster. For more on jerk, read where to get the best jerk chicken in Jamaica, parish by parish.

Jerk pork with rice and peas and fried festival on a simple plate Jerk with rice and peas and festival is the everyday plate at a cookshop.

Small roadside cookshops and jerk stands serve the everyday plates: jerk chicken or pork with rice and peas, festival, breadfruit or salad, plus fried fish, curry goat, oxtail and daily soups. Hours and prices change at the small places, so confirm before you go. Ask whether they take cards before you order, and bring Jamaican dollars. Say good afternoon before you order, too.

Sunset dinner: booking and getting back

Sunset dinners need a plan. Rockhouse and Pushcart take reservations, and The Cliff Hotel asks you to reserve tables. For Ivan's, The Lodge, Blue Mahoe and the other resort restaurants, ask for a sunset-facing table when you book. Lonely Planet recommends reserving popular restaurants ahead during peak season.

Plan the drive too. The West End is a short drive from Seven Mile Beach, but West End Road winds, pedestrian space is limited in places, and it is dark after sunset. Lonely Planet says Negril is walkable around the beach and town, and it recommends taxis for excursions and late travel. Arrange a licensed taxi or private transfer through your accommodation for the return, and allow time for traffic on the way out too.

What lunch and dinner cost

Lonely Planet's July 15, 2025 guide puts a beachside lunch at US$20 to US$30 and a casual dinner at US$30 to US$60. In Jamaican dollars, that is about J$3,180 to J$4,770 (US$20 to US$30) for lunch and about J$4,770 to J$9,540 (US$30 to US$60) for dinner, using the Bank of Jamaica rate of about J$159 to US$1 on October 13, 2026. Upscale cliff restaurants and lobster dishes can cost more, and these are examples, not set prices.

Lonely Planet says most places take major cards and tap payments, but cash still matters. Carry Jamaican dollars for taxis, tips and small roadside spots, where card machines or connectivity can be unreliable. For more on tipping, read tipping and eating out in Jamaica.

Is leaving the all-inclusive worth it?

If your meal plan covers breakfast, lunch and dinner, the question is which meal is worth stepping out for. For most visitors, a beach lunch is the easy first trip. You can walk much of Seven Mile Beach, and the beach strip has casual choices like Best in the West, Alfred's Ocean Palace and Arthur's. A sunset dinner on the cliffs is a bigger night, so book the table, arrange the taxi and plan the way back, since the West End is dark after sunset. Pick one night, not every night.
